Facts About Youth Suicide

Today’s youth struggle more than ever with issues of peer pressure, drugs/alcohol, poverty, divorce and the overwhelming content of the information available to them on the internet.

Parents of today’s youth face the challenge of raising their children against the backdrop of these difficult but common issues. Many parents are also dealing with their own difficulties, such as work demands, step-family issues, and financial hardships.

Depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children and teenagers continue to rise in New Mexico. In our state, suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 15-24 and the third leading cause of death among youth ages 10-14.
